"Underappreciated Treasure" was commissioned by John Ball Zoo for a "Hidden Treasure" themed fundraiser in which artists were given a wooden treasure chest to embellish. I have always felt that armadillos have been given a bad rap when in fact these interesting little guys play such an important role in the ecosystem--this was an opportunity to show them as the treasures that they are.
